Flicker-free Light Bulbs from Daylight Labs Earn Calm Tech Gold Certification

Humans are exposed to a lot of artificial light. Recent statistics report that the average person spends up to 90% of their life indoors. Instead of sunlight, we experience hundreds of flickering, low quality LEDs in our homes, paling in comparison to the outside environment.
For most of human history, the light available after sunset was fire from candles, oil lamps or hearths. All of it burned around 1800K, deep amber, infrared-rich, and dim. Our circadian systems evolved over hundreds of thousands of years calibrated to that spectrum as a signal: the day is ending, wind down, prepare for sleep.
Then in about a century, we replaced all of it with electric light running at 3000K to 4000K, closer to midday sun than candlelight. So what kind of light do we use at night?
Most residential lighting is sold without color temperature, flicker, or spectral data. These bulbs are specified on all three. The choice of incandescent technology over LED is itself a design decision, one oriented toward light quality rather than efficiency metrics alone.
We were excited to discover the incandescent bulb and wooden fixture collection from Daylight Labs. This is our first light certification, and we plan to do many more, as light is an ingredient in our everyday lives, and more attention should be paid to it.

The line spans three color temperatures: 2100K amber, 1800K deep amber, and 1000K red, available in ST64, T45, and G80 form factors, with a shade-free wooden fixture with a custom low-EMF grounded plug and dimmer support.
The 1800K deep amber bulbs match the spectral output of candlelight.
The 1000K red is designed for bedside and bathroom use, where melatonin sensitivity is highest in the hours before sleep.
Daylight Labs collection scored across several categories: light quality specifications including color temperature and flicker, choice of output calibrated to biological need and time of day, physical dimmer control, and natural materials in the fixture itself. We'll be certifying more light-based products in the future!
